Jan 1st 2013, here we are. Many have wished each other a Merry Christmas & sent each other wishes for a happy new year. If a wish is a hope for something, then wishes are things we all have. Do you think that if we could see the wishes people hold close to their hearts,...
A while ago we took the girls to the cinema to see the movie ‘Tangled’. They loved the film & the music. I have often heard Ava in bed at night singing the tunes from the movie. In brief summary of the film: Rapunzel is born with healing power in her hair. An evil woman...
Beautiful post! Your Ava is a very lucky girl.
We might have to sit down and watch tangled today too. I have been quite concerned about the exact same thing- my rubes, soon to be 5 has never had a hair cut and while she doesn’t have the beautiful curls it is always the first thing that well meaning people comment upon. I agree that it’s dangerous for young people to think that their exterior defines who they are.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and beutiful pictures. We are now looking forward to a movie afternoon!
I took this photo of Ava and Pete on fathers day last year. Both of our girls adore their dad. Recently I was in the living room & I could hear Ava talking to Pete in another room. I heard her ask, “Dad, can people get unmarried?”. I knew when I started having children that...
Oooh that’s too cute! There was a saying, something like “Dad; boy’s first hero, girl’s first love!” The relationship between a girl and her dad shapes her up so much as a grown woman!
I’m in such admiration of the relationship you & Pete have with the girls! Reading your posts always teach me something!
Lisa this is beautiful! And now you’ve told me who the M was that doesn’t surprise me one bit! That’s such a special relationship, and i’m so thankful all our girls have such wonderful Daddy’s who love them and they adore in return!!
this is hilarious lisa! and almost identical to a conversation max and I had earlier in the year (I’m sure you can imagine). i told him that you can’t marry someone in your family. so he has decided that he will leave our family. so he can marry me 😉
The first time we took Ava to Luna Park she was two & a half. She had spotted a Ferris wheel across the harbour & she was intrigued by it. She kept asking questions about it. We took her as a treat just after Anouk was born. I thought she might like it there, but...
What a gorgeous snapshot Lisa. Hours of fun with a slinky, awesome!!
Sarah
Luna Park is one of Isaac’s all-time favourite places too – same thing: he saw a picture of a ferris wheel and became obsessed, we took him to Luna Park (or in our household, The Big Face) for a ride on the ferris wheel at age 2, and he hasn’t looked back. He even went for his latest visit (for Daddy-Son day) a couple of weeks ago too! I love how our families have similar experiences even though we don’t get together much!

Anouk is killing me with that slinky, so funny. I love the shot of her looking out over the harbour, with her little slinky friend at her feet.

Your photos are STUNNING! Your children are beautiful! Your writing is wonderful!
Someone keeps leaving hand drawn pictures on my desk where I work at home. I suspect there are two artists at work here because there are two distinct styles of drawing. One of the mystery artists uses coloured pencils and fills the page with rainbows, flowers & girls wearing skirts. The other artists works with...
The drawings are gorgeous. I love how they are engaging in your world and reminding you of their presence. And a shopping list is very helpful – I wish someone would do one for me! xx
Jessica
I love these pictures. Someone does the same things at our place also.
It was the apple that finally did it. She had a loose tooth that had needed to fall out for weeks. We picked Ava up from school last Friday & decided to go somewhere filled with Autumn leaves to enjoy the end of the season together. It was there that the apple caused her tooth to finally fall out. She...
While I always admire your photography skills, it’s such a joy to read your stories. You can see pictures from your words just by the way you articulate a moment, a memory, a thought. Just beautiful
Kirsten
Lisa you have made me get my A into G. Ive been trying to sort out a weekend to do this very thing with the family and am running out of time….. Before long the last leaf will fall and it will be too late!! Thank you for posting this, its beautiful!
michelle

Such a great blog post on enjoying the seasons. Did you catch any of the Ecclesiastes series in Hub just gone? Ecc 3 in particular was about seasons and how transient they are. Thank God for beautiful seasons like these!! PS- love the Autumn light with Autumn leaves!!
Just beautiful Lisa. Your words are so delightful, I discover that over and over again as I come to treat my eyes to the visual delights that are your photographs. Just beautiful. xo
Continue the wonderful good article, I just read couple of articles about this web page.

Hey Lisa, what a beautiful post, a great reminder to try and see the beauty in the moment as you’re right, it goes SO quickly! The photos are gorgeous, as always. I love those 3 of you w the girls and the beautiful autumn light. Hope to see you in the holidays.
Dear Anouk, You turned 3 last weekend. It has been 3 years since you were born, on your Grandma’s birthday, making me rush to the hospital before I had served the birthday cake at lunch. You told us this week that your favourite things are; pink, babies, escalators, ice cream, buses and berries (you said this...
Lisa I love love love this post. I love the picture you created of Anouk’s thankfulness for her gifts. It’s exactly what I witnessed from Lucy this week on her birthday. So inspiring. She’s as thankful for a ‘boring’ tshirt as a Tinkerbell doll.
I also love ‘I’m exciting’. Isaac used to say ‘I’m exhausting’. And that he was. 😉 I’m sure you ARE exciting, Anouk. xx
Lisa Jay
Thanks Sarah! You sharing that about Lucy does not surprise me at all. Many of the pictures of your kids opening their b’day & Christmas gifts with such appreciation have stuck in my head. It’s funny.. when Ava wanted to wrap her ‘creation’ for Anouk I was almost tempted to say it would be a waste of wrapping paper to wrap something that wasn’t one of her actual presents (because we still had to wrap my mums b’day presents & two lots of mothers day gifts). Thankfully I realised that to her it was a ‘real’ gift & so I didn’t say it & I helped her wrap it. What a lesson I learned when Anouk opened it & loved it like any other gift.
Oh Lisa – Happy Birthday to your beautiful little girl. She is such a little doll and I just adore these photos of her and her equally gorgeous sister. xxx
Lisa Jay
Thank you Sonia!! xx
Bianca
What lovely sisters they are. Anouk is such a character, whenever I see her she looks so serious but then I see your beautiful photos and it’s clear she is a bit of a comedian!! Beautiful photos of a special day for a special girl. Happy birthday Anouk!
Lisa Jay
Thanks Bianca, Anouk is quiet around groups of people, but a total character with us. Thanks for being part of her day. xx
Here in Australia, we have just finished the school holidays between term 1 & 2. Being Ava’s first year of school, they were our first school holidays ever. I’m so happy that she loves everything about school, but I was also happy to have her around for two weeks. Towards the end of the term I...
Lisa, you are completely and utterly the mum I want to be. The mum I am from time to time, but no where near enough. Thanks for keeping me inspired to do better. I think you are wonderful. x
Lisa Jay
Sarah, You want to be the mother who didn’t get her child through the holiday homework or take her kids to the Easter show??…. hehe.
Thank you for your encouragement friend! You are an absolutely wonderful & inspiring mother! I think with this post I wanted to say that often what we don’t think is enough, really is. Doing more is OK too, but when we don’t do those bigger things, doing less is enough. It takes so much less than we realise for it to be enough. We all have those times where we think we are not the mum ‘we want to be’, but maybe what ‘we want to be’ is not the same as what ‘we need to be’… and maybe what we need to be is simpler than what we imagine. x
This is my favorite post of yours Lisa! You have such a talent for capturing the beauty in the “ordinary.” You make a rainy day look like magical adventure! Happy you guys had some great family time together! Your girls are too cute for words!
Filling up the moments in a day leaves less time for spontenaity, less time to explore, create, and imagine. Thank you for the reminder! And a rain walk sounds like a perfectly fun idea:)
Good Friday in Sydney. The skates are hand me downs from my generous friend whose daughter grew out of them before they were even used. Have you ever owned something that you put off using & by the time you decided to use it, it was too late? I think most parents, including myself can relate to being...
Beautiful post! Wishing you a wonderful year! xx
Thank you Mel! I wish you the same xx
