This I know…… *1 punnet of raspberries is never enough *They would eat fairy bread for every meal if I let them *My in laws dropping in for coffee & cupcakes on their 39th wedding anniversary is a good thing *Plasticine can be made into pretty things *I still find cicada shells fascinaitng at age...
The trampoline was a gift from their Gran & Grandpa for Christmas. They are on it every day. At first Anouk wouldn’t get on while Ava was on it, because she got bounced around too much. After a week she decided it was too hard to wait until Ava had finished her turn, so she quickly...
On Monday we had some fun making a Christmas corner at home. The girls hung the decorations on the tree and we made a paper chain to hang over the fire place. Last year we placed our Christmas books in a basket by the tree & read a Christmas story each night in December. We...
Oh your house just looks beautiful and so so Christmassy. I hope you have a fabulous Christmas hun – thank you so much for sharing all your inspiring photos. Thanks to you I am now really enjoying getting to know my camera. 🙂

When motherhood was new, I wondered. I wondered what times waited in our future. I wondered what it would look like. The days ahead, where everything would be new through her eyes. I wrote in her baby book that what ever happened we would laugh together. I promised her laughter. I hoped we would have...
WOW! Your photos speak a thousand beautiful words, the way you have catured laughter with your daughters enjoying the beach and that photo of their daddy holding them with his back turned is a powerful message to them of his protection…your pictures are truly fabulous…you are gifted indeed! xJess
Miss 4: “mum! watch me, watch me, watch me!!!” me: *watching* miss 4: “OK are you ready mum?” me: “Yep, I’m ready” miss 4: “OK mum close your eyes” me: *eyes closed* {insert loud swishing jumping landing sound here} miss 4: “mum!! You didn’t watch!! I did my trick & you didn’t watch!” me: “but you...
Your pictures bring back so many wondeful memories that I have of my two daughters when they were much youger…that time went way too fast. I loved when they dressed up and danced about the place. The cooking looks like lot of fun, what a great idea with all the dry foods…will be trying thaat out with Josh a bit later when he is not inclined to eat it! Just successfully voted in round 2 – you’re blog is amazing! x Jess
I just love your photos.
And I am sure you won’t mind Santa hammering a hole in your roof so he can get the pressies in? There might be questions Christmas morning if there isn’t a hole 😉
I would have loved 2 daughter, visits by little friends helped to have girly play at home. before that it was things like cars being driven around, soft toy football matches, star wars battles, lego towns, skinned knees, climbing on the roof, or up the tree, backyard cricket etc……. Love my boys too!!
Lisa Jay
Thank you for stopping by Joy!
Libby, I imagine the change from your two boys to your girl must have been quite different. I love the idea of star wars battles, lego towns & skinned knees…. growing up with two brothers that all sounds very familiar…. with the addition of He-man & skeletor battles of course!

Peggy… yes beauty through the eyes of children, is the ultimate inspiration! x
Jess… All too soon it will be me saying to another mother how I remember when my girls were young. Time does move by quickly. You should try the ‘cooking’ play with Josh, it’s keeps them occupied for quite a while. You just have to be willing to sweep the floor afterwards, but otherwise the mess is OK. Lentils, pasta, rice, breadcrumbs…. anything you have in packets… & lots of patty pans 🙂
Becky, there will definitely be questions from miss 5 when there isn’t a hole & I am going to have to start thinking up an answer to that one! x
Choreographer George Balanchine said ”God creates, I do not create. I assemble and I steal everywhere to do it –from what I see, from what the dancers can do… ”. In making art we gather from what is already there, more than we create it. I remember the turning point for me on my journey...
I love the tranquility in your self-portraits. I find it hard sometimes to confront myself in self-portraits… might be a lesson in there somewhere!
David & Lyn
Lisa, your whole blog is testimony to your artistry with what you see, what you present and how you express it all. Very inspiring and uplifting! We love all your work.
These are the most beautiful photos of you Lisa. I hope you are so going to frame sme of these. I especially love that last one of you and your little girl. heavenly! xxx
Wow! What an amazing post…you have both captured your self portrait beautifully, you look amazing Lisa especially with your daughter in your arms, a picture ~ no doubt, someday she will treasure. Keep up the good work/excellent talent!
We spent a week at the beach last week. We have a number of Summer photo sessions coming up, so now was the best time for a little time out together… I took lots of spontaneous pictures of the girls in their element playing in the sand & sea. Then I asked them if I...
Ohhhhh how very cute they are and the comment your youngest made! I do love pictures where I have my two girls huddled together smiling but then again some of the best that I have hanging in picture frames are the ones that I caught them unaware! Every moment we capture is truly precious and memorable!Great pictures Lisa! xJ
‘Painting intimate moments of motherhood’, that is how artist Katie m. Berggren describes her work. I first discovered Katie’s artwork about this time last year & I instantly ordered some of her prints for my home. Her paintings resonated with me in the intimacy between the parents & the children in her work, the way the...
I think the art works are amazing and your photographs do relate so beautifully to them, the similarities are gorgeous. I will have to check out Katie’s site. Thanks for sharing.xJ
It’s a cliché to say that children teach you to ‘stop & smell the roses’. It’s also true. They stop to smell the roses. They strongly suggest I do as well. There are days when tired is not a strong enough word. There are days when coffee & sunglasses help. There are days when they...
I love your everyday photographs, they capture so many special moments in the day-to-day routine that you might otherwise miss! I have been thinking of documenting a day or a week in our lives this summer with my SLR, you have inspired me!
Lisa Jay
Hi Sarah! Thanks for stopping by. I’m so glad you’re inspired! You should go for it. One great way to document a day is by taking one photo every hour for an entire day. You should definitely document ‘a week’ this Summer. Especially since it’s your last Summer before your eldest goes off to school. Have fun with it! x
An amazing blog, I can relate on so many levels, I love your style of writing it is so freindly and personal. You are a fabulous photographer. Love the swing photo with the playground in the background.xJess
Thanks for this comment Jess. As bloggers I guess we don’t know how we are coming across unless we are told. I would hope to be friendly & personal, so that means a lot to me. xx
Your photographs are stunning, retro, and reminiscent of my own childhood memories. The color and the shape of these images, rounded corners and all, makes me feel very connected to the images. This is my first time on your blog and I’m sure to come back and visit again. Thanks for the reminder…I try to start each day trying to live in the moment with my sweet baby girls. These are the best days…at least that is what my mom tells me!
Lisa this is beautiful. You stop to ‘smell the roses’ and by doing so see the beauty in the small moments, that is lovely. I love your photos – the library, the swings, scooters, your sunglasses and coffee, your girls whipping up a storm. Just lovely. xo
Dirt on her feet & mud on her hands. Sunshine on her skin & pearls around her neck. Flowers in her hair & watermelon stained cheeks. Chasing birds, looking for lizards, gathering berries, hide n seek behind the trees. Happy heart. Be little a little longer & even longer than that. I do love the...
wow wow wow! the colours, the fabric, the little lady..just gorgeous!
Lisa Jay
Sarah, that’s really nice of you to say.. thank you!
Lisa Jay

Yes isn’t that fabric wonderful! My mother & her sister (my aunt) said they had matching pants exactly like these when they were kids in the 60’s. So good!
Oh if I show this to my husband he will begging me for a daughter! Beautiful little girl captured in the most adorable way. Love the watermelon stained cheeks.
What a gorgeous snap shot of life! Is this using Instagram?
Hi Anna, thanks for stopping by. I didn’t use instagram. Just the good old hipstamatic app.
