He is a pianist and piano professor at the Sydney Conservatorium. She is a PhD student at the Con and also works for the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. They contacted me asking for a photo session that celebrated their love in the lead up to their wedding next year. So we had ourselves a beautiful afternoon...
Wow! I am so excited to see this one! I adore the last photo of you both at the piano. I (of course) think you are both beautiful people and you both look so happy. Well done Lisa on capturing such natural expresses in a lovely space.
I love that it’s not what one expects. They are in love and you can tell and feel it through the photos. The one with the piano is super special. Amazing.
The lovely Stav Hatchett, owner of the store My Messy Room in Sydney’s Summer Hill is working on a new website and a few other changes for her store. I am working with her on some photographic images for the site. My Messy Room is such a special place. I adore it! It is not just...
I’m blown away by your beautiful post of words and pictures.
Thank you so much for the visual images i can now use on my website and blog. You were so awesome that day, i was full of beans wanting to get a million and one things done and you took it all in your stride. patiently.
I’m so happy too that you understood the love that i feel for creating a community. That has always been my aim, to have a shop where customers can actually stop. stop and talk and look and enjoy the small rituals again.
I LOVE the images so far and cant wait to see more.
It’s like a blind date when I arrive at a session to photograph a family I have never met before. I showed up to this session & then realised that since I have no idea what they look like, all I could do was just stand there hoping they would recognise me because I am...
Some images from our weekend. A rainy long weekend. It’s Ava’s turn to bring Twigga the Giraffe home from pre-school for a week. We need to reprt back on Twigga’s adventures with Ava next week when she returns to pre-school (she goes 2 days a week). We rugged up and went out to our...
A record of the day Anouk turned two. She was straight out of bed & first on her agenda was cooking up a storm in the play kitchen Sometimes I can’t believe the amount of play these two fit in between waking up & eating breakfast… It was a normal day, with no particular plans,...
Oh wow – i had a slightly auful day and just submitted an assignment one minute before due (stressful!) but watching that cheered me up so much. Your kids look so gorgeous in photos but how much more in action. Aren’t they amazing – she is talking beautifully. Wow. Thanks for sharing those precious moments.
Lisa Jay
Oh sorry about your day Hannah…. I have been there & done that ‘submitting assignments with a minute to spare’ thing! It really is stressful. Glad you made it through! Thanks for stopping by my blog tonight 🙂
Lisa Jay
Oh & I just saw on your blog that you are dreaming of Paris! lucky you! xx
Last weekend we were out hunting for locations for a couple of up coming shoots and letting the kids play along the way. They were having such a good time. The moon was in the sky & they didn’t want to stop playing. I love the pace of weekends. The feeling that...

Hello, I am a new follower here and have just found your blog and your photography is beautiful. I have been scrolling through you photos and am in awe of the emotion you feel when looking at them. Can I ask where abouts is the heart on the footpath?
Can’t wait to see more of your work.

Hi Janine, Thank you so much for your lovely comments!! and for taking the time to look through our work.
The heart on the path is in Bronte on a path as you head up from Bronte park (behind the beach) to the road.
Have a great day.

Some afternoon tea on the back deck, some jam, some tea, some story time, some cheekiness, some giggles, some favourite toys, some somersaults, some twirling and some beautiful light. This entire session was held at this families home. A beautiful family with two children named Zac & Holly who are curious, clever & as cute as could be....
A collection of images gathered from both mine & Pete’s iphone’s. I love the idea of picture making and creativity being integrated into everyday life. Are you an iphoneographer?
Totally agree with your comment “I love the idea of picture making and creativity being integrated into everyday life”!!! I am a bit of an iphone photographer, only because it’s so easy and the phone is always handy. But I am not sure what to do with the photos as I am not great at editing them and they are not always great quality. Love love LOVE what you have done with these though! Would make a great mini-poster for home.
Lisa Jay
Hi Jo, thanks for your comment. No need to worry about editing, none of these images are edited, we used iphone app’s for all of them, then they are all straight from the camera, to the computer, to the blog. (only via photoshop for me to story board them). I approach iphone photography a bit like a polaroid photograph, where the picture is what it is. There are some people who do amazing editing to their iphone images too though. One idea if you are taking lots of iphone images is to get them all onto your computer & then create a photo book out of them. If you are taking them all the time then they would hold the story of your days in them. You can play with different apps, or get different looks in your images by just playing around with different types of light.

ps. my 4 year old took the image in the top right corner.. that’s me thinking, while at the computer with my thinking arms on my head & Ava snapped it!
They’re cute! Is that my munchkin holding hands with Ava (looks like her hair from behind)? I’m glad you explained the thinking photo cause I was somewhat bemused as to the pose! Now that you’ve explained it, I see what’s going on.
I love the block construction! And wow great photo by Ava. xx
Lisa Jay
Yes Katrina, that is your munchkin holding hands with my munchkin. If you look closely there is also a picture of your husband in there too 🙂
It’s interesting to let your child take pictures & then look through what they capture. You see yourself through their eyes. I was surprised at how serious I must look when she walks into the room & I am deep in thought, working.
I took these pictures of Ava this afternoon. She has grown up a lot recently, but I can still see glimpses of ‘littleness’ (and I love that). Most parents have moments of wishing their little ones would just stay small, but really we know that our children’s lives are not ultimately about our wishes, but their own wishes. I hope...
Wow! I am so excited to see this one! I adore the last photo of you both at the piano. I (of course) think you are both beautiful people and you both look so happy. Well done Lisa on capturing such natural expresses in a lovely space.

…I can tell you I AM EXCITED!!!
It was such a beautiful day with Lisa and her husband. Just beautiful. I cannot wait to see all the other shots 😀
I love that it’s not what one expects. They are in love and you can tell and feel it through the photos. The one with the piano is super special. Amazing.
