‘Painting intimate moments of motherhood’, that is how artist Katie m. Berggren describes her work. I first discovered Katie’s artwork about this time last year & I instantly ordered some of her prints for my home. Her paintings resonated with me in the intimacy between the parents & the children in her work, the way the...
I think the art works are amazing and your photographs do relate so beautifully to them, the similarities are gorgeous. I will have to check out Katie’s site. Thanks for sharing.xJ
It’s a cliché to say that children teach you to ‘stop & smell the roses’. It’s also true. They stop to smell the roses. They strongly suggest I do as well. There are days when tired is not a strong enough word. There are days when coffee & sunglasses help. There are days when they...
I love your everyday photographs, they capture so many special moments in the day-to-day routine that you might otherwise miss! I have been thinking of documenting a day or a week in our lives this summer with my SLR, you have inspired me!
Lisa Jay
Hi Sarah! Thanks for stopping by. I’m so glad you’re inspired! You should go for it. One great way to document a day is by taking one photo every hour for an entire day. You should definitely document ‘a week’ this Summer. Especially since it’s your last Summer before your eldest goes off to school. Have fun with it! x
An amazing blog, I can relate on so many levels, I love your style of writing it is so freindly and personal. You are a fabulous photographer. Love the swing photo with the playground in the background.xJess
Thanks for this comment Jess. As bloggers I guess we don’t know how we are coming across unless we are told. I would hope to be friendly & personal, so that means a lot to me. xx
Your photographs are stunning, retro, and reminiscent of my own childhood memories. The color and the shape of these images, rounded corners and all, makes me feel very connected to the images. This is my first time on your blog and I’m sure to come back and visit again. Thanks for the reminder…I try to start each day trying to live in the moment with my sweet baby girls. These are the best days…at least that is what my mom tells me!
Lisa this is beautiful. You stop to ‘smell the roses’ and by doing so see the beauty in the small moments, that is lovely. I love your photos – the library, the swings, scooters, your sunglasses and coffee, your girls whipping up a storm. Just lovely. xo
Dirt on her feet & mud on her hands. Sunshine on her skin & pearls around her neck. Flowers in her hair & watermelon stained cheeks. Chasing birds, looking for lizards, gathering berries, hide n seek behind the trees. Happy heart. Be little a little longer & even longer than that. I do love the...
wow wow wow! the colours, the fabric, the little lady..just gorgeous!
Lisa Jay
Sarah, that’s really nice of you to say.. thank you!

Yes isn’t that fabric wonderful! My mother & her sister (my aunt) said they had matching pants exactly like these when they were kids in the 60’s. So good!
Oh if I show this to my husband he will begging me for a daughter! Beautiful little girl captured in the most adorable way. Love the watermelon stained cheeks.
Weekending. Best burger ever. Their first time bowling. Anouk played for fun. Ava played to win. The shoes are not as cool as they used to be. When I was a kid I didn’t think the old style shoes were cool. But they were. I know that now. Bowling is not something we do often....
I want pictures that feel like I wasn’t in the room with a camera. Pictures that write their story… their day dreams, their wishes, their wonder & their delight in simple things. Slightly hazy… like memories… where the details may be lost but the feelings are strong. Pictures of the way it is. Pictures of...
Miss two loves hanging out in the bath. She stays in there after the water has turned cold, swimming around, pouring & drinking the water every time she thinks I am not looking. Curious about why she insists on drinking the water, despite my constant pleading for her not to, I recently asked her, “Anouk...
She asks if she can take pictures with my camera. I almost say no. I always say yes. She holds it correctly. She leaves finger prints on my lens. Anouk usually photographs objects. Ava photographs people. If I ask them what flavour ice cream they want, Anouk will say chocolate. Ava can never decide. I...
He was five when his little sister was born & he would say, “she’s a beautiful girl in the beautiful world”. I’m told that they were fighting in the car on the way to the photo session (because that’s what an 11 year old brother & 6 year old sister do)…. but they also...
First today I want to say thank you to all of you who visit this blog & for those of you who have ‘liked’ or have left comments or sent me lovely messages or joined our facebook page. Thank you for your encouragement to keep sharing in this space. Please let me know in the...
Mid winter on July 24th I became suddenly unwell. It took the next five weeks for me to know the reasons why. The end of winter this year was supposed to be exciting because we were moving house back to the neighbourhood & community we loved & lived in when we were first married. Instead of exciting,...
Wow hasn’t Anouk’s hair grown – I didn’t recognise her! I’m so glad your feeling better – and that your all ok. Praise God. You must be feeling emotionally drained from all that worry – praying for you. xx
Beautiful Lisa and so glad to hear you are mending. These Spring days definitely help don’t they! Your image of the cherry blossom is particularly beautiful and I love their matching cossies. xx
Hi Lisa 🙂
Sorry to hear you’d been unwell but glad you are feeling better now and enjoying your gorgeous girls-they’ve really grown so much!
Love to you guys,
Lusi x
Love the artwork! Love your images!
Thanks Brenda…. isn’t Katie’s art gorgeous!
Those paintings are truly beautiful 🙂
Hi Robyn,… beautiful indeed. I think so many mothers would find a painting that they feel a connection to in Katie’s work.
Thanks for stopping by. x
